The culture and creativity of the Nusantara (Malay Archipelago) will be given a fresh lease of life through AKAR//NEXT 2026, a three-day contemporary cultural festival taking place from 30 October to 1 November 2026 at Central Market, Kuala Lumpur.
Organised by Goodseed Event, AKAR//NEXT carries the core theme “One Root. Infinite Futures.”, which anchors an immersive experience connecting deep cultural roots with the present generation through music, art, fashion, culinary delights, creative products, community activations, and digital experiences.
Moving away from traditional events that focus solely on music performances or retail marketplaces, AKAR//NEXT is meticulously designed as an all-encompassing experience. It invites visitors to explore multiple facets of culture and creativity under a single roof. Throughout the day, festival-goers can seamlessly transition from enjoying food, supporting local independent products, and viewing art installations, to participating in creative workshops and enjoying vibrant live music sets by night.

Steering Cultural Roots into New Frontiers
Hilli Fahmi, Chief Executive Officer of Goodseed Event, stated that AKAR//NEXT was envisioned to view heritage from a broader, fresher perspective that strongly resonates with today’s youth.
“AKAR//NEXT was born out of the idea to bring our cultural roots into a space that is fresh, open, and highly relevant to today’s generation. We want to demonstrate that heritage is not something static or merely a memory to look back on, but something that can continuously evolve through music, art, fashion, creativity, and technology.
“Through our theme ‘One Root. Infinite Futures.’, we view a single root as the starting point for endless possibilities. AKAR//NEXT serves as a collaborative space for us to celebrate what has shaped us, while giving the new generation the opportunity to define what comes next,” he said.
Backed by their track record of organizing various successful events and festivals, Goodseed Event is taking its boldest step yet with AKAR//NEXT 2026, marking it as the largest festival the company has ever mounted.
With a vast scale encompassing music performances, arts, cultural showcases, a creative market bazaar, interactive digital experiences, and the involvement of various sub-cultures and strategic partners, the execution of AKAR//NEXT stands as a significant milestone and challenge for Goodseed Event in ensuring every distinct element harmonizes flawlessly.

According to Hilli Fahmi, the operational insights gained from their previous events served as the crucial baseline for developing AKAR//NEXT. However, the sheer scale and vision of this year’s festival demand much greater planning, synergy, and commitment from the entire team.
“Goodseed Event has organized various events and festivals in the past, and that experience has immensely helped us in building AKAR//NEXT. However, we cannot deny that AKAR//NEXT is the biggest festival we have ever undertaken.
“It poses a substantial challenge for us, not just in terms of operational size, but in successfully weaving disparate elements like music, culture, art, community, and commercial creativity into a singular experience with its own unique identity. We want to ensure that what we envisioned is fully realized to deliver a deeply meaningful experience to our visitors, partners, and everyone involved,” he added.
Connecting the Roots to What Lies Ahead
The concept of “One Root. Infinite Futures.” mirrors AKAR//NEXT’s goal to view culture not just as inherited history, but as an active source of inspiration that can be continuously reimagined and translated into modern expressions.
Through this contemporary lens, Nusantara cultural elements will be spotlighted alongside modern expressions that appeal directly to the younger generation.
The lineup making up the AKAR//NEXT experience includes traditional cultural showcases, live musical acts, curated DJ sets, electronic music, live performances, as well as experimental collaborations blending traditional instrumentation with modern sounds.
Equal emphasis is placed on arts and heritage, featuring curated textile displays, heritage showcases, oral storytelling sessions, visual arts, and bespoke art installations that allow visitors to view heritage from entirely different perspectives.
Concurrently, local fashion designers, lifestyle brands, artisanal crafts, accessories, collectibles, and local creative products will be highlighted across a dedicated marketplace hub that brings together top home-grown creative entrepreneurs and independent labels.
From Day to Night
AKAR//NEXT is intentionally engineered as an experience that shifts organically alongside the atmosphere and time of day.
During the daytime, visitors can enjoy a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere centered around the retail marketplace, diverse food and beverage options, community art activations, specialized workshops, and creative programming.
As night falls, the festival grounds will transform into a highly energetic hub driven by live music gigs, electronic dance music, synchronized visual projections, ambient light shows, and dynamic nightlife experiences.
According to Syarafina Shaffi, Chief Operating Officer of Goodseed Event, the visitor experience layout was treated as a top priority throughout the strategic curation of AKAR//NEXT.
“We want visitors to step into AKAR//NEXT not just to catch a single performance or purchase a product, but to spend their day fully immersed in the complete ecosystem we have built.
“That is exactly why our programming is split into contrasting day and night vibes. Families can come during the day to explore the marketplace, join hands-on activities, and enjoy local food, before the younger crowd transitions into the high-energy music sets and sensory experiences at night. We want every single space and activity to offer something worth discovering,” she explained.
This multi-tiered approach allows AKAR//NEXT to attract a highly diverse demographic, ranging from families and weekend tourists to youth sub-cultures, music and art enthusiasts, and the wider creative community.
An Incubator Platform for Local Creatives
Beyond acting as a premium lifestyle destination for visitors, AKAR//NEXT opens doors for local fine artists, musicians, DJs, independent designers, craft makers, entrepreneurs, content creators, and creative collectives to project their portfolios and commercial products to the public.
Creative learning programs, such as specialized workshops and industry sharing panels, will also offer visitors the chance to interact closely with the creators and industry trailblazers.
Digital layers will be seamlessly integrated into the physical event via curated online content, QR code-based interactive trails, real-time social media engagement, and immersive tech setups that fluidly bridge the physical and digital worlds.
Building a Sustainable, Long-Term Platform
AKAR//NEXT is envisioned as more than a one-off, three-day event; it is purposefully engineered to scale into a major annual platform that drives the cultural dialogue, community integration, and the creative economy of the Nusantara region.
In line with this long-term vision, Goodseed Event opens its doors to corporate brands, corporate companies, government agencies, cultural organizations, media houses, content creators, entrepreneurs, artists, and creative communities to actively participate in the ongoing development of AKAR//NEXT.
Available collaborative avenues encompass brand sponsorships, experiential brand activations, strategic corporate partnerships, media and content cross-promotions, creative vendor placements, and artist commissions, alongside product and service integrations.
