Hong Kong has long been a very popular foodie destination for many. Inviting travellers from all over the world, the island city’s unique history has spawned all sorts of delicious dishes inspired by the many cultures that influence Hong Kong’s shores.

Though predominantly cloaked by Cantonese culture, the city’s diverse population has allowed all sorts of assimilation including within the society’s cuisine.

With the progress of time, Hong Kong has opened its doors to people of different backgrounds as well. In pursuit of becoming an inclusive holiday destination, Hong Kong has also increased efforts in attracting Muslim visitors. Several initiatives have been done to gain the attention of Muslim travellers, particularly through the introduction of many Muslim-friendly and Halal certified eateries.

We went on a Halal food trail and had a chance to discover some interesting Muslim-friendly gems within the gastronomic sphere of Hong Kong.

Our trails started at PMQ, originally built in 1951 as Police Married Quarters (PMQ), the site was revitalised and reopened in 2014 to support Hong Kong’s creative industries. It is now a hub for young local designers to sell and promote their creations. PMQ offers a variety of new local brands, selling everything from fashion to other creative products

It is also home to one of Hong Kong’s Muslim-friendly restaurants called Pasteako. Known for its pasta dishes with steak, all the meat at this restaurant is Halal-certified and delicious. What’s more, diners are given the option to choose their preferred knife for cutting the meat during the meal.

Next, trail on near the famous Kowloon Mosque and Islamic Centre in the city center, to a Michelin-recommended luxury restaurant called Cuisine Cuisine. Located in the Muslim-friendly The Mira Hotel, this restaurant offers a special Halal-friendly menu featuring authentic Cantonese dishes. It has also been recognized with four ‘crescent’ symbols by Crescent Rating, a well-known global Muslim-friendly certification body.

Another popular destination within walking distance from Cuisine Cuisine is Marouf & Puff Bake. This pastry venue and café offers a wide range of delicious pastry and bread-based dishes. Even more special is that everything served is Halal, as all the meat used is certified Halal. Be on the look-out for their well-known egg-tarts.

Then, hidden inside the bustling Bowrington Road Market and Cooked Food Centre in Wan Chai, a Muslim-owned Wai Kee offers travellers a chance to experience a more local side of Hong Kong dining. This humble food stall is especially popular among Muslim travellers for its classic Cantonese-style dishes, with its famous roast duck rice being one of the must-try items. Served with tender duck meat and beautifully roasted skin, the dish delivers the familiar flavours of Hong Kong’s traditional roast meats while remaining halal-friendly. Another highlight is the mutton curry rice, a comforting dish packed with rich spices and tender meat that has become another favourite among regular visitors. 

Meanwhile, located inside the Masjid Ammar and Osman Ramju Sadick Islamic Centre in Wan Chai, their resident canteen offers a unique opportunity to enjoy halal versions of classic Cantonese favourites, especially its well-loved dim sum selection during lunch. From steamed favourites such as siu mai and har gow to other traditional bites, visitors can enjoy the experience of a Hong Kong-style yum cha while knowing the dishes are prepared with halal considerations. Its convenient location, close to the Causeway Bay area, also makes it an easy stop after exploring some of Hong Kong’s popular shopping and sightseeing areas.

Another popular spot in Tsim Sha Tsui, Rue du Liban brings the flavours of the Middle East to the heart of Hong Kong with its selection of Lebanese-inspired dishes. Guests can enjoy a variety of traditional Lebanese favourites, from grilled meats and mezze selections to flavourful rice and sharing dishes that highlight the rich spices and culinary traditions of Lebanon. 

These are just mere glimpses of what Muslim-friendly Hong Kong has to offer. Evidently, Hong Kong is a melting pot of delicious delights that can be savoured by everyone from any ethnic group or background.

Further reinforcing its commitment to becoming a welcoming destination for Muslim travellers, Hong Kong was recognised at the Halal in Travel Awards 2026, securing second place in the Muslim-friendly Destination of the Year (Non-Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) category. The destination also retained its No. 1 ranking in the Muslim-friendly Accessible Travel Destination (Non-OIC) category, highlighting its continued efforts in enhancing Muslim-friendly facilities, services and travel experiences for visitors from around the world.
