The iconic puzzle game, with its colourful falling blocks and addictive gameplay, became a staple of childhood for an entire generation. Now, those nostalgic memories are being reimagined through fashion as Malaysian lifestyle brand Kapten Batik unveils its latest collaboration with the legendary gaming franchise.
The Kapten Batik x Tetris Collection marks a refreshing departure from the brand’s usual offerings, blending the timeless appeal of traditional batik craftsmanship with the playful spirit of one of the world’s most beloved video games. Inspired by the concept of individual blocks coming together to create something meaningful, the collection draws a unique parallel between Tetris’ famous Tetriminos and the intricate motifs that define batik design.

The collaboration introduces nine exclusive designs across Kapten Batik’s signature collections, namely the limitless-print Nusantara, the copper-stamped Masterpiece, and the wooden-block crafted Maharaja series. Each design is available in a variety of batik colourways, offering fans multiple ways to embrace the nostalgic crossover.
Beyond its signature shirts, the collection also extends into a range of specially designed lifestyle merchandise. Fans can look forward to T-shirts, tumblers, tote bags, lanyards and sling pouches, all inspired by the vibrant world of Tetris and infused with Kapten Batik’s distinctive design language.
At the heart of the collection are motifs created by Kapten Batik’s millennial textile designers, Syahirah and Sofeana, who carefully selected elements from the Tetris universe, including the iconic Tetriminos and classic gaming console imagery. Drawing upon their understanding of local batik artistry, the duo transformed these nostalgic references into contemporary patterns that push the boundaries of conventional batik design.

The result is a collection that celebrates both heritage and pop culture through designs such as Game On!, Bloom and Build, Console, Daylight City, Urban Wildscape, and Tetris City. Each motif tells a story of creativity, nostalgia and innovation, creating a unique meeting point between the worlds of gaming and traditional craftsmanship.
The campaign accompanying the collection was spearheaded by Kapten Batik’s Creative Services Manager, Syazwan A., and reflects the vision of the brand’s Head of Creative, Fadli Muhsin.
“This collaboration, from my point of view, is purely a tribute to the people of our era, the millennials who went through the Tetris days of the early ’90s,” said Fadli.

The visual campaign embraces both nostalgia and modernity, creating a retrospective yet contemporary tribute to a game that helped define a generation. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s previous ORKES campaign, which combined batik workshops and live performances, the new campaign explores the concept of duality within a single space.
Shot at Timestamp Studio, the campaign takes place in a retro home-inspired setting reminiscent of late 1970s American interiors. The carefully curated backdrop serves as a visual representation of childhood memories, with Tetris blocks seemingly appearing throughout everyday scenes occupied by young adults. The result is a romantic and imaginative interpretation of the gaming experiences that many millennials fondly remember.
To celebrate the launch, Kapten Batik is hosting a special 12-day activation at North Court, The Gardens Mall, running from 3 to 14 June 2026, with the official launch event taking place on 8 June 2026.
Designed as more than just a retail showcase, the activation invites visitors to immerse themselves in a nostalgic gaming experience through a series of specially curated zones. Guests can explore educational exhibits, exclusive merchandise displays, retro arcade experiences and the interactive Tetris Tumble XL attraction.
Visitors can also participate in engaging activities such as the Scan & Play of Heritage Blocks and the Tetris Forever Weekly Leaderboard Challenge, alongside other gaming-inspired experiences. According to event directors Illiya Zhafiera and Sofeana, the activation serves as a heartfelt tribute to the childhood memories shared by a generation raised on the iconic puzzle game.
