A Love Story Served on a Plate : Fittie Sense Cafe, Bangsar

I take my food seriously. So seriously, in fact, that to me, food is a lot like a relationship. It needs to be healthy, consistent, and every now and then, it needs a little spicing up to keep the excitement alive. I’m talking about new menus, of course.

I’m trying to do justice to this review because Fittie Sense is a café I frequent quite often. For the longest time, it felt like a quiet, low-key relationship — one that only a few of my close friends knew about. But now, I think I’m ready to tell the world about it. And hopefully, readers beyond Malaysia will discover it too.

So, to all the healthy, picky eaters who haven’t been to Fittie Sense — yet — this one is for you.

It Has Always Been Dark Chocolate Coconut Bounty

The co-founders of Tipss.my were fortunate enough to celebrate our first anniversary when Fittie Sense Cafe, Bangsar hosted us to sample some of its delicious new menu offerings.

Food and celebration? Now, that’s a combination I can get behind.

I was first introduced to a new cake on the menu: the Orange Polenta Cake. Made with almond meal, cornmeal, honey, olive oil, kampung eggs and poppy seeds, it sounded like something I had to try.

One bite, and I was hooked. It was fluffy, with a bright, zesty orange flavour that brought everything together beautifully. But that was it for me — just one bite.

Now, before I tell you about my next encounter with the Orange Polenta Cake, let me give you some backstory about another cake. One that has had my heart for quite some time.

The Dark Chocolate Coconut Bounty Cake.

This has always been my choice whenever I visit the café. After a busy day filled with meetings and appointments, it is my go-to stress-relief food. When it’s raining outside, it becomes my comfort food.

I’ve ordered it so many times that, instead of me ordering it, the staff sometimes simply ask:

“Dark Chocolate Coconut Bounty?”

I smile.

“Yes.”

What does it taste like? Well, firstly, it’s chocolate — and that already gives it an advantage in my books.

But it’s more than that. It’s moist, creamy, warm and not overly sweet. The portion is just right for me to savour without feeling overwhelmed. And I should mention the ingredients: 70% dark chocolate cacao, prunes, honey, coconut oil, almond meal, kampung eggs and coconut cream.

It’s familiar. It’s comforting. It’s dependable. Much like a good relationship. Then came the Orange Polenta Cake.

On my next visit to the café, I decided to order a slice. I thought to myself, Am I cheating? But then I softened the thought. Hey, a woman has to have options.

So that day, I chose the Orange Polenta Cake. And yes, it was just as delicious as I remembered — warm, zesty, orangey and fluffy. I finished the whole thing, of course. But something was missing.

It felt light.

I missed the wholesome, creamy depth of my Dark Chocolate Coconut Bounty. And at that moment, I knew. It has always been Dark Chocolate Coconut Bounty for me.

Next visit, I knew exactly what I would be ordering.

That said, relationships are not about having only one option. There are plenty of other cakes and dishes at Fittie Sense, and perhaps you’ll find that one particular cake you simply can’t say no to.

Spicing Up the Menu

Even the healthiest relationship needs a little excitement.

Consistency is good. In fact, consistency is what makes you trust something. But staying exactly the same forever? That’s not really growth. Sometimes, you need to evolve. Fittie Sense is doing just that. Along with refurbishing the space, the café has introduced new menu items for its eaters to explore.

My favourite new addition is the Fittie Burger, specifically the lamb kofte with chilli aioli and Lebanese slaw. I could practically taste the sauce and lamb while typing this. The mind is a funny thing.

If lamb isn’t your thing, there are also grilled chicken and roast beef options. And then there’s the bun. You can choose between an organic wheat bun or an almond bun, which is gluten-free. I always go for the latter — because I can.

Next came the Lemon Mascarpone Cream with Wild Seabass Fillet. We were told that the seabass was sourced from fishermen in Kuala Selangor. Well, then, we simply had to try it.

If seabass isn’t your thing, you can opt for salmon instead. You can also choose between pasta or konjac noodles.

The verdict?

I’m not a food critic, but let’s just say we finished everything on the plate. There was practically nothing left to review.

Then came the roast beef with mustard.

Same fate.

Gone.

And finally, we had the Cajun pan-seared chicken chop — mildly spicy chicken served with smashed avocado, fresh tomatoes, greens and a millet-quinoa pilaf.

Also done and dusted.

I suppose that says something.

A Quaint Café on the Second Floor

Bangsar is always busy. People, traffic, hawkers — the usual. And parking? Well, that can be a challenge. Amid all the hectic, somewhat chaotic energy of the busy streets, it’s comforting to know there is a café where you can walk up a flight of stairs and find yourself in a peaceful, welcoming space with good, healthy food.

Those of us from Tipss.my were lucky enough to arrive after the lunch rush, so there were only a handful of other diners around. It made the whole experience even more relaxed.

It’s the kind of place where you can hang out with friends, bring your family, or spend time with someone you love.

There’s a chill, laid-back vibe to it. And perhaps that is why my relationship with Fittie Sense has lasted.

So, Are We Still Together?

Absolutely.

Like any good relationship, there are the familiar favourites — the ones you keep coming back to because you know exactly what they will give you. For me, that will always be the Dark Chocolate Coconut Bounty.

But there are also new experiences, new flavours and unexpected surprises. The Orange Polenta Cake reminded me that having options doesn’t mean you have to give up what you love. Sometimes, you simply need to explore before appreciating your favourite all over again.

Fittie Sense, for me, is that kind of relationship. Healthy, comforting, dependable — but not afraid to change things up. And perhaps that’s the secret.

So yes, I’m finally making this relationship public.

Dear healthy, picky eaters — if you haven’t met Fittie Sense yet, perhaps it’s time you did.

Just don’t blame me if the staff start asking you:

“Dark Chocolate Coconut Bounty?”
