Paris’ legendary palace hotel, Hôtel Plaza Athénée, is once again reaffirming its deep connection to art and culture with a special exhibition by renowned French sculptor Michel Bassompierre. From now until 16 April 2026, guests and visitors can experience six major works by the celebrated contemporary animal sculptor displayed throughout the hotel’s iconic spaces.
Set against the timeless elegance of Avenue Montaigne, the exhibition transforms the palace into an immersive artistic journey. The sculptures are thoughtfully placed across La Cour Jardin, the Lobby, Le Relais Plaza and the hotel’s entrance, creating a captivating dialogue between contemporary art and the refined architecture of the property.

Michel Bassompierre is widely regarded as one of the leading figures in contemporary animal sculpture. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Rouen in Leleu’s studio, he developed a meticulous approach rooted in careful observation and a profound understanding of volume and form. His works are instantly recognisable for their rounded silhouettes and serene presence, often depicting animals such as gorillas, bears, horses and Asian elephants.
Crafted in bronze or Carrara marble, Bassompierre’s sculptures embrace traditional sculptural codes while maintaining a modern sensibility. The harmonious balance between light and shadow, coupled with gentle yet powerful forms, evokes a sense of calm — a fitting complement to the elegance and romance that define Hôtel Plaza Athénée.

This artistic collaboration reflects the hotel’s ongoing commitment to supporting creative expression in all its forms. Known for its deep ties to fashion and haute couture, the 208-room palace — part of the prestigious Dorchester Collection — continues to position itself as a cultural landmark in the French capital.
Located in the heart of haute couture on Avenue Montaigne, Hôtel Plaza Athénée offers spectacular views of the Eiffel Tower, five restaurants and bars, and the Dior Spa Plaza Athénée. With this latest exhibition, the hotel once again blurs the line between hospitality and artistry, inviting guests to experience Paris not just as a destination, but as a living gallery.
The Michel Bassompierre exhibition runs until 16 April 2026, offering a rare opportunity to encounter contemporary sculpture in one of the city’s most glamorous and storied settings.
