The Music Authors’ Copyright Protection (MACP) Berhad honoured the nation’s most outstanding songwriters and composers at the MACP Awards 2025, held in a glittering ceremony at Hilton Petaling Jaya. This year’s edition, themed “Biar Rare, Baru Real”, celebrated originality and authenticity within Malaysia’s creative music landscape.
A total of 11 award categories were presented, covering top-performing works in Malay, English, Chinese, Tamil, and international repertoire. The awards night also recognised the contributions of MACP members and celebrated the achievements of emerging and established creators.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of Anugerah Nadi Cipta to veteran composer Eddie Hamid. Renowned for crafting hits for artistes such as Siti Nordiana, Spoon, Safura, and Saleem, Eddie continues to remain relevant across generations.
He was also praised for his versatility — from contemporary pop compositions to elevating Kelantanese ethnic music. His breakout hit “Cinta Setandan Pisang” triggered a nationwide phenomenon, becoming the first Kelantan-dialect song to win an award at the 24th Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM).
Young composer Zubir Khan was named Komposer Muda Berpotensi, celebrated for bringing fresh energy to the industry. His Tamil hit “Yennode Macha” gained significant traction on digital platforms, marking him as a rising force in Malaysian music.

This year, MACP also introduced a new category — Pencipta Independent Popular — aimed at recognising independent creators and supporting Malaysia’s growing community of self-produced musicians.
The ceremony featured powerhouse performances by some of Malaysia’s top artistes, including Ella, Firdhaus, Zubir Khan, Ezad Lazim, Iman Troye, and Sofia Liana & Crew, adding excitement and star appeal to the night.
MACP Chief Executive Officer Mary Yap addressed the growing use of artificial intelligence in music creation, stating that while AI may serve as a tool, MACP does not support or recognise AI-generated works.
“MACP will continue to protect the works of our local creators,” she emphasised, while also highlighting improvements to the myKarya portal to help members manage their creative catalogue more efficiently.
Through programmes like We Care, MACP reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to the welfare of its members, in addition to its role in strengthening Malaysia’s music rights ecosystem.
