This Merdeka season, cirKLe. makan²: Merdeka Semester 2026 invites Malaysians to come together and rediscover what connects us through an immersive celebration of Malaysian food, culture, heritage and community.
Taking place from 25 to 31 August 2026 at The Campus Ampang, the week-long experience is expected to welcome between 30,000 and 40,000 visitors, bringing together food explorers, families, young Malaysians, culture seekers, creative communities and heritage enthusiasts under one highly curated destination experience.
Built around the idea “Malaysia, Gathered!”, cirKLe. makan² reimagines the Merdeka celebration as a living expression of Malaysia’s diversity, transforming differences into shared experiences, meaningful connections and a stronger sense of belonging.
At the heart of the experience is a showcase of 14 Negeri Cuisine, celebrating the flavours, ingredients and food traditions that connect Malaysia’s 14 states. The event will also feature local makers and entrepreneurs, cultural activities, interactive experiences, performances and workshops designed to encourage visitors to engage with Malaysia’s diverse cultural heritage.
“One place. One Weekend. One Merdeka.” captures the spirit of the Merdeka Semester, bringing together food, culture and community in an environment where Malaysians can gather, experience and celebrate the many stories that make up the nation.
Beyond Food: A Living Celebration of Malaysian Identity
While food forms a central part of the experience, cirKLe. makan² goes beyond gastronomy to explore the wider cultural and community narratives that shape Malaysian identity.
One of the featured activations is Rahmat Bahgia, a multi-sensory, pop-up immersive experience inspired by the spirit of gratitude, unity and togetherness expressed through the national song Negaraku. Visitors are invited to slow down, reflect and reconnect with the sense of safety, unity and belonging that comes with being part of a community.
First initiated in 2023 by Jalan Negara Kita, Rahmat Bahgia was created as a grassroots placemaking initiative supporting artists, cultural practitioners and local communities. For this year’s Merdeka Semester, the activation moves into a larger space through collaboration with cirKLe., creating greater opportunities for creative collectives, local makers, artisans and entrepreneurs.
The collaboration also introduces a community-centred art + F&B approach, where shared meals become part of the visitor experience and a ritual of togetherness.
A Platform for Local Creatives and Communities
cirKLe. makan² is designed not only as a destination for visitors but also as a platform for local communities.
Local makers, crafters, artisans and creative entrepreneurs will have opportunities to showcase and sell their work, while artists and heritage practitioners can bring their creative practices to a wider audience.
The programme is supported by a wider network of content creators and KOLs, with live content, event coverage, food reviews and street interviews helping bring the Merdeka experience to audiences beyond the physical venue. cirKLe. will also host live streams twice daily, at noon and at night, featuring event happenings and promotions throughout the celebration.
Media and PR activation will further extend the event’s visibility through strategic engagement with national newspapers, lifestyle portals and online magazines, subject to editorial acceptance and partner package confirmation.
With Malaysia welcoming visitors from around the world during Visit Malaysia Year 2026, cirKLe. makan² offers a contemporary, community-driven way to experience the country’s culinary and cultural diversity.
More than an event, Merdeka Semester is envisioned as a gathering point, a place where generations, communities and cultures meet through food, creativity and shared experiences.
