Kakao Origin has officially opened its flagship chocolate drinks bar, marking a new chapter for the Malaysian specialty chocolate brand. The thoughtfully designed bar is more than a café, but a destination that invites guests to slow down and experience Malaysian cacao, craft, art and conversation in a deeper, more meaningful way.
Built around single-origin Malaysian cacao and immersive tasting experiences, the space reflects Kakao Origin’s belief that chocolate is not simply a product, but a cultural expression – one that carries the stories of land, people, heritage and craftsmanship.
Guests are invited to explore curated chocolate flights featuring cacao sourced from different regions of Malaysia, discovering how terroir, farming traditions and post-harvest practices influence flavour in the same way they impact wine or specialty coffee. The experience extends beyond the cup.

At the heart of the flagship is a special collaboration with Terengganu Songket, a sixth-generation songket weaver and producer. Handwoven songket installations float above the tasting bar, inspiring a quiet dialogue between cacao and cloth, flavour and form, hospitality and heritage.
Some collaborations begin with strategy. This one began with a shared feeling – a quiet understanding between Terengganu Songket and Kakao Origin that true craftsmanship, whether woven by hand or carefully crafted into an experience, carries stories, memories and identity. In a world moving quickly towards speed and convenience, the collaboration invites guests to slow down and encounter heritage not merely as something displayed, but as something felt.
Through this partnership, songket is appreciated not only as tradition, but as living artistry. Hospitality, conversation, flavour and human connection become part of the story, creating a setting that honours the hands behind the craft – the patience, care and generations of knowledge that continue to keep Malaysia’s cultural heritage alive.

Throughout the flagship, contemporary Malaysian artworks sit alongside stories of artisans, cacao farmers and cultural makers, creating an environment where hospitality becomes a platform for discovery and where local creativity is presented with warmth, pride and contemporary relevance.
“We wanted to create more than a chocolate destination,” says Sasya Ahmad Sebi, Co-Founder of Kakao Origin. “We wanted to create a place where people could experience Malaysia differently – through flavour, through craft, through conversation and through the stories of the people who make these traditions possible.”

The flagship reflects Kakao Origin’s broader vision of elevating Malaysian single-origin cacao onto the world stage while celebrating the richness of local culture and creativity. As global consumers increasingly seek authenticity, provenance and meaningful experiences, Kakao Origin offers a distinctly Malaysian interpretation of luxury – one rooted not in excess, but in craftsmanship, heritage and connection.
Every detail of the chocolate bar has been carefully considered, from its immersive tasting experiences and artisanal chocolate collection to its collaborations with cultural custodians and artists. The result is a space designed not merely to serve chocolate, but to foster curiosity, conversation and a deeper appreciation of Malaysia’s creative identity.
At a time when many cultural traditions risk fading into memory, Kakao Origin hopes to show that heritage can remain vibrant when woven into everyday rituals – one cup, one conversation and one shared experience at a time.
